The Wharfedale AURA 4 is a three-way floorstanding speaker with two 6.5-inch woofers, a 4-inch midrange driver and an AMT tweeter. It covers 37 Hz to 22 kHz (±3 dB) and is sold individually.
The AURA 4 comes in hi-gloss black, walnut and hi-gloss white. The cabinet walls layer several different woods, then receive a polished lacquer. Its rounded corners spread the radiation without stray reflections. The model stands 110.7 cm tall on its base, is 28.6 cm wide and weighs 24.5 kg.
Two 6.5-inch (150 mm) woofers and a 4-inch (100 mm) midrange driver use woven glass-fibre matrix cones on rubber surrounds. The voice coils move in high-flux magnetic fields, with copper-plated pole pieces. Each cast aluminium frame is fixed to the cabinet with six high-strength screws. A rubber ring damps resonances where the frame meets the wood.
The AMT diaphragm (27 × 90 mm) is pleated: it does not move back and forth like a piston. Its mass therefore does not hold back transients. The crossover points are 475 Hz and 3.3 kHz. The response at ±3 dB extends from 37 Hz to 22 kHz.
The downward-firing port spreads its airflow through slots in the base, an SLPP loading that limits turbulence. Bass extension reaches 26 Hz at -6 dB, with internal volumes of 4.8 L and 67.2 L. The nominal impedance is 4 Ω (compatible with 8 Ω), with a minimum of 3.1 Ω. Drive it with an amplifier rated 30 to 200 W, for a sensitivity of 89 dB and a peak level of 107 dB.
