The CD 70 uses a high-performance DAC, clocked by a dedicated master clock. The following stages use Marantz HDAM and HDAM-SA2 modules, selected components and a symmetrical circuit layout. The specifications list a 110 dB signal-to-noise ratio, 100 dB of dynamic range and 0.0016 % total harmonic distortion.
The front USB-A port plays FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC and DSD files stored on a flash drive. For discs, the mechanism accepts CDs, CD-R/RW and burned MP3 or WMA files, with ID3 tag display. Selectable digital filters adjust how CDs sound.
The front headphone output has its own discrete amplifier, built around an HDAM-SA2 buffer. Its level is set with a dedicated knob next to the socket. On the back, a gold-plated RCA analogue output and optical and coaxial digital outputs feed an amplifier or an external DAC.
The chassis has an extra metal reinforcement plate, a toroidal transformer and separate rectifiers for the analogue and digital circuits. The metal front panel comes in black or Silver Gold, with a VFD display that can be dimmed or switched off. The unit is 442 mm wide, weighs 6.5 kg and is operated with the supplied RC006PMCD remote control.
