The E1.2 Phono adds a true quality phono preamplifier, where many entry-level turntables rely on a basic single-chip stage. It connects directly to a line or CD input through its gold-plated RCA sockets, and can be switched off if you use another preamp. Its 47 kOhm input impedance and RIAA curve held within ±0.5 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz preserve the detail of the vinyl.
The 730 g die-cast aluminium platter is reworked and balanced at the factory so that it spins evenly. A TPE ring damps its resonances, and it rests on a glass-fibre reinforced ABS sub-platter. The stainless steel axle and ball turn in a bronze bushing, and switching between 33 and 45 rpm is done electronically with a single button.
The turntable arrives with tracking force and anti-skating set by Pro-Ject technicians, so you only need to connect it. Its 8.6-inch aluminium-tube arm, with an effective length of 218.5 mm, sits on a zero-play gimbal bearing. The carbon-reinforced headshell limits vibration, and the large-diameter counterweight, placed close to the pivot, improves balance and groove tracking.
The Pick it MM E moving-magnet cartridge comes fitted and adjusted. Its low-mass system, built around a miniature neodymium magnet, lowers inertia and improves tracking accuracy. The conical diamond gives a warm, smooth sound with little background noise, and the damped ABS body keeps vibration-induced colouration to a minimum.
